$25/hour is like $2100/month. You need twice that to live comfortably in the United States. So the argument that part-timers are asking for $25 because they're trying to live off one part-time job is just plain wrong-headed to begin with. It's not possible.

They're asking for $25 because Teamsters should be setting the standard in our industry. Yet according to ZipRecruiter the average monthly pay for part-time at Amazon is $2,943/month. Just looking at listings on Indeed I'm seeing $19 starts for Amazon in North Carolina, where the cost of living is relatively low. And you don't have to wait 9 months to get insurance!

If you want to make big bucks, become a driver.

Not everyone can, or wants to. That doesn't mean they shouldn't still be paid their worth. Part-time at UPS is harder than fast food, and they should be paid accordingly.

Over half of the part timers in my building spend the majority of the time on their phone. They aren't worth 25 dollars an hour

Part time workers at Amazon might make $19 an hour but they have to pay more than $700 a month to cover their family on the Amazon medical plan.

Obviously they have no pension either. Part time workers at Amazon are paid time and a half for four hours if they work on one of the 7 designated national holidays but are not given those days off unless their facility is closed. There are other things that also suck about working at Amazon regardless of how nice people on this site want to make working there seem.

Hi all, I wrote this response to JoeAllen705's article. I've heard the concerns from members about the uneven standard of living across our country and the potential cost to UPS to raise contract starting pay $10. I'm not an economist or a collective bargaining expert, but I simply will not vote yes on a contract that could result in me taking a pay cut. I don't think it's unreasonable for others to do the same. The best possible fix may be language about restoring past MRA's, and language that states once an MRA is enacted, the wage may not be lowered.

He seems focused on Ron Carey. Ron died in 08, part timers don't care about history that occured while they were in grade school. 25 dollars an hour that's the discussion.
