$20 is way to low. Some states minimum wage will reach $20 in 5 years.

Agreed but who said it has to be a five year contract. That's negotiable .

Another 5 year contract will tie our hands. There needs to be "re-opener with right to strike" or "Right to strike re-opener" tied to several issues. Issues such as wages, subcontracting, harassment, technology, etc. The IBT can re-open negotiations to address one or all of the issues.
I would prefer a 3 year contract.

You know we are talking about 26 year difference. O'Brien better negotiate 25/75/5 for part timers. The IBT can no longer kick the can down the road anymore.

Actually Sean Orr who heads the UPS Teamsters United caucus and supports Sean O'Brien along is the one that has been promoting $25.

The part-timers who actually support O'Brien created their own 25/75/5 movement without the support of TDU. As a matter of fact at the last TDU Convention they were shot down by David Levin and he silenced them raising their argument.

The part-timers have never been this organized.

I've long felt this way about Carey and the pedestal people put him on. Especially considering they took all those newly created 22.3 inside positions after '97 and gave them all to drivers who didn't want to drive anymore. Part timers didn't actually gain much at all from that strike.

But the point about O'Brien's $20 promise is that part-timers are ALREADY getting that. Name a major metro area that doesn't have an MRA $20 start. I don't know about you but I pay the union to get me ABOVE market rate. Not hand me what the company will already give voluntarily while trying to pass it off as some kind of accomplishment.

Why do you have to be anti-O'Brien to want a $25 an hour start rate? I'd think the GP would want to see that too.

Have you heard of MRA's? What part of "their already paying it now" don't you get?

There seems to be a great misunderstanding of just how many members are actually getting or have even gotten the MRA. The Mule and I have done 2 shows on this exact topic and did alot of homework. The first thing to note is, MRA language is in fact not in the contract, and only at most 8% of members Nationwide have gotten the MRA. Even in Major Hubs like mine, some sorts do NOT reicieve it. Also, most in my Local and State did not receive the MRA either, when comparing actual members. MRA Itself is not based on Cost of Living per-say. It is used by UPS and other companies to gain or maintain employment. This is why only certain hubs, and areas have reicieved it and others never will.

That being said the MRA will be a small factor for a few employees in the next contract. Like the COLA most got it some didn't. These issues need to be fixed. However, you can not start negotiations from them as a baseboard for reasons stated above (COLA is in the contract)

However, negotiating from the MRA is not logical because it is not contractual for 1, and 2 it is not majority rate for most part timers. Most are actually only making contract rate of $15.50 just because they aren't complaining all over social media doesnt mean they dont exist.

Look at both State and Federal Minumum wages Country wide. Look at the expected projection. Watch the Tug&MuleShow we talk about all if this in our MRA show!

If you are a part timer at UPS and it's your only source of income, then you are the problem. 25 dollars an hour? What are you smoking???? If you want to make big bucks, become a driver. Some warehouse Teamsters jobs are barely at 25 bucks for full timers. I'm at UPS making 18 bucks. I'll be happy with 20.

Do not sell your labor short, you like every UPS rank-and-file part-timer should be making $25 or higher.
Why should UPS only pay "big bucks" for driving. We let UPS off the hook if the only way for part-timers to make "big bucks" is to go driving. UPS can create more great paying full-time inside jobs.
Also, some part-timers can not go driving for medical reasons.
