Will Teamsters Strike Anheuser Busch?

Last year we witnessed the labor movement take a stand in many places to push for respect in the workplace around wages, safety and healthcare. From UPS, to UAW to writers and actors. Brewery workers for Anheuser Busch are currently in negotiations and it seems like corporate AB is not willing to bargain in good faith. It doesn't help that AB has seen profits plunge due to their partnership with a member of the LGBT community. Beer drinking is at an all time low with some breweries in jeopardy of closing down. Will brewery Teamsters strike? Will this lead to a good contract or the shuttering of more breweries?

It probably won't be needed in the end, or will not result in anything better, but oz needs some PR and will strike and it will be an "historic" victory, of course! At the risk and loss of the members.

What bothers me is that job protections and guarantees to continue operating breweries are some of the topics that AB does not want to negotiate. We've seen too many plant consolidation. There is a huge plant in the Irwindale/Duarte area that was once Miller Brewing. They shut down and laid everyone off years back. The plant is now back up being used by a copacker that pays a fraction of the wages that Teamsters would earn.

Well if it's any indication by what is happening with these practice pickets, Budweiser members will be forced fed a contract that is considered "historic". Then massive layoffs and plant closures will commence. Rank and file have lost all faith in the heads of the IBT. Hate to say it but we were better off with Hoffa Jr.

Well, fortunately O'Brien & Co were able to pull off a historic victory with only a day left to go. I am sure the TA is the best agreement ever made.
