GEB Voting on Alleged Race Discrimination Case Settlement

This case was brought by thirteen former IBT organizers who were fired March 22,, 2022. The IBT denies any wrong doing and the settlement proposed by the plaintiffs includes a "No Admission of Liability" clause. The plaintiffs offered to settle all claims against the unon for $2.9 million. The existing IBT insurance policy will cover $2.4 million leaving a balance of around $500,000 to be paid from the General Treasury. The GEB is voting by poll whether or not to approve the payment from the General Fund.

They settled to keep this out of the news. Plus according to the jury, they could have had to pay 10Xs this much.

These thirteen are just a few of the 200 Teamsters fired by OZ day one. No notice ,no reason ,no severence cut off their health care just as soon as possible. Hell of a way for a union to act. The kind of actions reserved for only the very worst employers.

I find it strange that people are 'appalled' that IBT employees were let go when a new administration took over. Any administration will want 'their people' in key jobs to carry out their policy. I don't know anything about this case or that case, but did people really think they had a right to stay? What happened in 1999? Tim S didn't expect to keep a job. I'm pretty sure Hoffa Jr cleaned house.
These are just money grabs and political digs, in my opinion.

When you read the whole complaint you have to wonder did this really happen in a union? The complaint out lines many of the things we as a union oppose every day. To think that our dues are being squandered for a racial discrimination case in a labor union is completely unacceptable. This wasn't just one case or an isolated incident this was thirteen people and Teamsters too. If your waiting for a TDU response don't hold your breath.?
