Ending subcontractingg was one of several issues labeled "strike Issues" by O'Brien and Zuckerman leading up to and during the negotiations. Its also one of several issues they caved on, but all of that was ignored in the TDU/IBT PR blitz to sell a mediocre contract.

I took these pictures last week and posted on Facebook. The changes in Art 26 language opened the door for UPS to place UNLIMITED trailers on the rail.

Some of the good language in the 2018 contract was limiting rail sub-contracting and creating 2000 new feeder jobs.

Removing that language opened the barn door and allows UPS to cut 2000 high paying feeder jobs.

These photos in Sharonville Ohio, a short train, dominated by UPS trailers. I arrived as the train was already passing, but I observed about 60 trailers on this train.

On the Facebook post, some drivers speculated that it was just UPS moving equipment. 1st point, I doubt that, as the trailers are loaded backdoors together, this is done to limit the chances of theft. 2nd, even if they are empty, mo ing equipment between hubs is Teamster work.

This is just one of many trains moving UPS packages and moving UPS equipment, while dues paying Teamsters are on layoff or being laidoff.

With the increased use of the rail, packages can be sorted at anyone of the UPS hubs. Trailers on the rail from the west coast can easily be sorted in any number of hubs.

It won't cost UPS anything to divert sorting work from the Centennial Hub to Lexington or Walton or Indianapolis. In some ways, UPS can justify moving the work by creating volume in these other hubs that maximize their operation capacity.

But, anyone that knows UPS knows they're moving work away from certain hubs to punish those workers and their locals.

And now with more automated hubs popping up, work from old fashion manual hubs are being diverted to automated hubs. This reduces labor hours by nearly 10% according to Carol B. Tome, said several months ago.
