These tactics are nothing new. The theatrics of bargaining. The practice picketing is used by the SEIU and a lot of public sector unions. Not a new tactic. Now adopted by Teamsters I suppose. It makes members feel involved without having to test if they would really strike, there is no loss of income, and UPS knew it was coming. A weak union's tactic. This PR about the tough guy, and bringing UPS to their knees was simply just that, PR and BS. The outcome is going to be a ratified contract, better in some ways and worse in others, than past contracts. No magic, nothing new, and no adulation for oz like they planned on!

Getting back to the article itself I think its an accurate take , This negotiation feels completely scripted. The constitutional change allowing members to participate was a great thing but it was neutralized when everyone was forced to sign nondisclosure agreements. The NDA's made it impossible to report back to coworkers. As usual members were kept in the dark and spoon fed only official information. We were not even allowed to see our own proposals and now we're experiencing a very expensive vote yes campaign that we're paying for with our own dues money. It all feels like a well orchestrated SHAM, and when members wake up and think about it after the vote count, they'll realize we got fooled again.
