For the last 5 negotiations at least, the West, and particularly JC7, had to battle the International over the IBT trying to give away the conditions, contract language, HW, and pension. Idiots who were easily bullshitted by thinking they were the negotiations chairs' friend like Marty Frates, had to be pushed aside by Mack and then Aloise to tell the IBT to go fuck themselves. To their credit, the West officers and BAs held their ground and we never were traded away. Now that has all ended. The people like frates and hicks and flynn, and griswold, and the Oregon idiot let oz buy them first, and take total advantage of the incompetence, lack of knowledge and history, and frankly their lack of balls, and allowed the contributions to the WCTPTF to be FROZEN FOR 5 YEARS!!! Guess where the money goes? You got it, New England and other plans. NO pushback as VPs or Trustees to the IBT plan. !!! This is simply the largest betrayal in the history of the WEST! Those who are Trustees need to resign immediately from the WCTPTF and should be totally and completely kicked out and brought up on charges for selling out the members covered by the WCTPTF.

This is false coming from the Aloise left overs that can no longer receive lap time from their daddy Rome. We got pension increases in Jc7. Thank goodness we had Frates who knows the drill.
Let's say we continue $18.10 per hour into our pension (that's what we get now) then we get 13 extra hours for showing up to work a month! We still make out well!

ARTICLE 34. HEALTH & WELFARE AND PENSION

Section 1.

(a)(i) Except as set forth in this Section 1(a), Health & Welfare and/or pension contributions shall be increased by forty dollars ($40.00) per week on August 1, 2018 2023 and on each subsequent August 1st during the life of the contract. Where the employees are covered by both Teamster Health & Welfare and Pension Funds in a Supplement, Rider or Addendum, the weekly health & welfare and pension contributions shall be allocated by the respective Joint Supplemental Area Negotiating Committees, subject to the approval of the Joint National Negotiating Committee.?

Its not just NorCal who's pension just got tapped, with medical costs rising that .50 won't go far. Its likely that there will be nothing available for Pension anywhere in the west.

When I first heard this I refused to believe any Western Officers would go along with something like this. The Western Conference of Teamsters Pension is the flagship of this union. The committee's recommendation was claimed to be unanimous, can that be true? No one stood up to object to this raid on our pension?

For Locals who have pension plans other than the Western Conference Plan, may not understand that in the west members all have individual accounts. Your pension is based on the amount of time you work and the actual contribution rate of your employer. In a twenty-five or thirty year career a five year freeze is a huge hit. And don't let them fool you that $.50 per year is going to healthcare.

This issue alone justifies a strong NO vote.

The Western Conference of Teamsters Pension is different from every other Teamster plan in that it is considered a hybrid defined benefit plan. Each participating teamster member has their own individual account. The money going in is based on the contribution rate (which is listed as dollars and cents per hour) contributed by the employer and spelled out in the contract. Improvements are only made when additional money is negotiated into the agreement. If the contribution is frozen you keep what you have but no improvement is possible. You build your monthly pension check slowly over time and that check is determined by the number of hours you work and the contribution levels over your career. A freeze is unprecedented at UPS. A five year freeze would be devastating and the damage would go well beyond UPS. This is a strike issue. Teamsters in the West who follow and understand the pension will not accept it.

Any Healthcare trust that attempts to subsidize health benefits in order to put in at least some money will see double the rate increase in the second year, which should concern any fiduciary. The only way to solve this is to restore the concepts of equality that existed prior to this TA.?

This is correct and if locals try to replace this fifty cents from Trust Reserves it only weakens the health trust and will have to be paid back. Nothing is free, moving money doesn't replace money. How anybody can keep a straight face and not claim this is a major concession is amazing.
