UPS Air Conditioning

I am not a UPS driver, but it seems like every UPS package delivery vehicle I see has the doors open. Will air conditioning actually work? Just wondering.

Its a plus but the way they run equip I'll never see it. Really though the cabs not the problem.

Let's not forget that FedEx, Amazon, DHL etc driver all have AC in their trucks without a union contract.

Up until 2017 it was a requirement to drive stick shift to be eligible to go through the driver training class. Until then the majority of the fleet trucks were stick shift with no power steering either. I'm sure you all remember what everyone referred to as the "piece of shit 1,000s." The only automatic trucks were the 1200 International's and the Hybrids that jerked and took forever to get going.

By 2018 at the earliest I think my building got rid of the last stick shift trucks. The majority of those "piece of shit 1,000s" were late 1980s models.

Let's just say these 2018 and newer trucks will be used for the next 20 years. Most of us will be retired before we get a new truck with AC.

I would rather have the part-timers get a $25 starting wage so they can put effort into their work than have AC.

Same thing he did in 2013 during the contract vote. He had moles send him the numbers. He turned around and published them and they happened to be wrong. It pissed off the people inside at the vote count.

You may not, they will age out the equipment, Many of the cars will be around for 10,15, maybe 20 years. Good luck with that A/C. BTW it's good that they secured the language, it just won't happen fast enough for most of us.

Good for drivers. Now if we could only get fans for unloading at my hub. It gets to be over 120 degrees in the trailers

The AC proposal is not high cost item for UPS because of the way it is structured, lets not kid ourselves, yet it is also better than the lack of any language or commitment to AC that exists now. The way the news of the TA was rolled out by both UPS and the IBT was unusual and seemed almost simultaneous. News outlets of every kind ran stories with the theme that UPS had agreed to put AC in their trucks without any details of faze-in or limitations.
If public support means anything in these negotiations, that round went to UPS and strengthens the case for those who don't believe there will be a strike.

You also have to take in to account that public pressure had much to do with them conceding. I agree that air conditioning would cost them little to nothing to add them to the purchase. It would truly be sad if the company used this issue as a bargaining chip especially when the employees have been pleading for this safety initiative for years. I almost fell out of my seat when I saw the company's statement that they take this issue seriously.
