    Oz/TDU/DOJ dumping YRC

For the last 20 years Hoffa was advised by his political advisors to let YRC fold. Why? Because, regardless of the fact that the members still had jobs, regardless that they still had benefits, regardless of the fact that less than 20% left for other jobs, the members blamed keeping the company in business on Hoffa. He screwed them, he fucked them, on and on. Who screemed the loudest, TDU of course. So now, oz and the GP are talking tough, like that will make YRC miraculously become profitable and get business because they WON'T ALLOW CONCESSIONS. But the real reason, like the reason the GCIU was kicked out because they weren't seen as mindless followers. YRC members will be doomed, because oz won't take the constant political damnation that Hoffa did, because he enabled the members to make their own choice. Hoffa, in spite of a lot of things, listened to SOME of his Board that demanded the members make the choice of keeping the company in business or not. Thousands retired with pensions, thousands had decent Healthcare for 20 plus years BECAUSE THE MEMBERS MADE THE CHOICE. It is transparent as it can be that oz with force them out of business, so as to not take the political heat! Remember, out of work YRC people won't be around to vote against them in 4 years, for saving their jobs, because they won't have them! It will be interesting to hear what TDU will say about abandoning the YRC members! That is, if there are any of them that haven't been bought...

Leadership is about making the tough decisions doing the right thing for teamster members ignoring the political consequences. One on one the majority of YRC members would probably agree with Koldiww's analysis. So far their voting record would indicate that's true, plus most know all the tough talk in the world won't make YRC profitable.

I for one would like to know more about why we're kicking the GCIU to the curb, BTW.

Yellow is going to go under and 30k Teamsters are going to be out of jobs and there arent enough jobs at abf or tforce for even a fraction of them to go to. O'Brien doesn't give 2 shits about those people. I don't know what the answer is. Is it better to have a union job and have to deal with the concessions or be non union and out of a job?

He does not give 2 shits about these members or more importantly how it might affect their families. Yellow is a sh$t- run operation. They could not pour piss out of a boot if the directions were written on the heel. Here's the sticking point, somewhere in the neighborhood of 20,000 members and potentialy 80,000 affected family members are going to have to live with the consequences of one man's macho and bravado. I would never defend the clowns running Yellow but maybe you should ask the members once again before you speak on their behalf. Maybe you should stop taking advice from Brian Rainville, the non Teamster political operative that never worked a callous on his hands in his life. Maybe you should ask our members who have worked lifetimes of punishing physical work on behalf of their loved ones. Maybe you should not be a politician........

There is no legitimate reason to not let YRC members vote. Its the most cold-hearted type of a political calculation as outlined in the first post of the thread, obviously written by someone with knowledge of the matter.

The latest exchange between the Teamsters union and Yellow Corp. suggests the carrier is running out of time and money.

They had an emergency meeting today in Harrisburg talking about how they were broke and needed to concede their salary and healthcare.

They told the drivers that they needed them to drive to destinations and do dock work for several hours.

So that's it? That's the plan? Do nothing. Everyone knows YRC sucks but few are leaving because most of the alternatives aren't better. Why do they not have a voice in their own livelihoods. Let the members at YRC decide the fate of YRC. If this is part of an O'Brien/Rainville political calculation, as has been suggested, its disgusting and should be chargeable. After all the BS and phony numbers reported by the IBT were corrected for 2022 we lost 220 members. What will those figures look like for 2023 if we just stand by and do nothing. Is that really what Teamsters at YRC want?

Spot on Jazzman, these guys (Rainville-O'Brien-Zuckerman) calculate everything in political currency. God help us all this is going to be worse than Hoffa JR ever was.

Despite disagreement over Yellows restructuring plans, the Teamsters union is taking a first step toward opening contract talks by surveying 22,000 union members online.
