Good article, worth a read on the demise of "The Act".

Excellent article. The article might have added that the surge of labor organizing post Wagner Act, was led by the newly formed Congress of Industrial Organizations (CIO). I'm sure the people reading this are mostly familiar with this history. But I'm saying that O'Brien's embrace of Trump/MAGA aids and abets the destruction of the US labor movement. It is a catastrophe and O'Brien must be defeated. His allegiance to Trump also embraces the racist, fascist direction the US is experiencing, that will get worse. The US labor movement was solidified by workers that were the antithesis, the opposite, of what Trump/MAGA stands for.

CIO affiliated unions led the greatest strike activity in US history immediately after World War II. And by 1947 the Taft Hartley Act became law (to a great degree because of the success of the CIO). Taft Hartley opened the door to individual states enacting right-to-work-for-less laws, restricted sympathy strikes in solidarity with other striking workers, eroded the right to strike, eroded the unions' right to bargain over management "rights" issues, and Taft Hartley required that all union staff employees sign affidavits stating that they were not now, nor in the past ever members of the Communist Party or other left wing organizations. The great CIO organizers, many of them were left radicals, increased union membership tremendously. The Teamsters were an AFL union, but Farrell Dobbs and the Dunne brothers that led the 1934 Minneapolis Teamsters strike (Jimmy Hoffa, Sr. worked with Dobbs and spoke of his great organizing skills), were radical socialists. A great many militant and democratically run labor unions fell under Taft Hartley. Taft Hartley took away NLRB recognition for any labor union that refused to sign the affidavits. This opened up raiding by unions that caved in and allied themselves with Taft Hartley. The left radicals were thrown out by unions willing to comply with the Taft Hartley required affidavits. The heart and soul of labor activists suffered under Taft Hartley and all through the 1950's under the HUAC (House Un-American Activities Committee); they were deported, blacklisted, and imprisoned under the Smith Act.

And who are Sean O'Brien's allies? The Trump, Josh Hawley, JD Vance, US Labor Dept. Secretary (right to work for less) Lori Chavez-DeRemer, etc. O'Brien is fighting against our Union's interest.

Spot on! A union's General President has the responsibility, above all else, to protect the union. Otherwise, that individual should step down and address the issues that are more important and personal. Throw the bum out!

Well said. Unfortunatly the union spends almost no resources educating members about the labor movement, in particular the Teamsters, and its connection to Socialist causes. So we're stuck with the kneejerk reaction to the word.
