First off the majority of the members supported Trump. Mr. Magoo betrayed those members by not giving an endorsement. With that being said this Union divided more than it ever been. He should've stayed out of the politics period. Membership is dying. National Contracts are gone with the exception of UPS. I believe there will be more layoffs due to Amazon growing in the parcel industry. We need to be more worried about saving our jobs and organizing in core industries. The hell with all.of these politicians.

Your post brings up some keys issues.

          * "Membership is dying" It truly is. At UPS we are witnessing sorts being eliminated, building closing for automation and now shuttering of 73 facilities. UPS is not going to creating new jobs. It's a blood bath and it is only going to continue. There is contractual language that addresses protecting jobs from new technology but what is happening with that, no one knows. Crickets is what is coming from the IBT Package Division when it comes NMA Article 6 Section 4 Technological Change. No Strike Clause puts us behind the eight ball.

          * We do need to step up our organizing in core industries but we also have to reengage our internal organizing campaign.

"No strike clause puts us behind the eight ball"? I've never seen a CBA without a 'No Strike, No Lockout' provision. Whu?

I get Yard dogs point, we're in a hell of a mess and not just in the Teamsters. Unfortunately its politicians that make the laws that say what is legal and what is illegal when it comes to organizing in core industries or anywhere else. This time around we put our faith in the Billionare class.

I can't disagree that laws with respect to collective bargaining should and could be better. That said, when members' numbers shrink it has much more to do with the lack of serious, as well as proper, effort by the unions. Approximately ten years ago the NLRB streamlined its election process which allowed for a reduced time schedule from the petition to the election. Employers were bullshit mad as well as scared. The reduced timeline did nearly nothing to increase election success for the Teamsters. Because the necessary resources were not made available to take advantage of this. It's all about resources, resources and resources. Shrinking numbers is mostly the fault of the union for its lack of being fully committed. It takes really deep pockets on the part of the union. That's a choice. That can be solved. Furthermore, many union officers and EB members really do not know what it takes to be successful. Organizers are most key. It takes a certain type of person to be a successful organizer. You can't just appoint a person and give the title of "organizer" and send them on their way. The Internatinal can't just "suggest" organizing to a Local. Most Locals don't know how...even if their intentions are good. I have met many Organizing Directors (or of some similar title) that talked a good game in front of others that where not even able to recognize that the "Director" didn't know what the hell he was talking about. He "sounded good". If the International allocates resources to a Local it must provide oversight to make sure that, 1: The Local is using that resource correctly by having a qualified organizer assigned to it. NOT NECESSARILY A TEAMSTER! 2: Is held accountable for not holding up to a certain standard of effort. Yeah, yeah, yeah! I know. "LOCAL AUTONOMY!" Local Autonomy can't mean, "We can do whatever we want. Even if whatever we are doing is nothing." The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) has been blowing the IBT away with respect to organizing. It has consistently, slowly increased in size. Because...(drum roll)... they allocate the resources. When numbers consistently shrink it is only because the commitment has not been there. Any other reason given is purely lip service. This is and has been the fault of the IBT. No excuses.

No argument here Bob. I could have just said politicians and politics matter, only fools ignore reality.

I couldn'agree more about the lack of seriousness in the IBT organizing program. Often "organizer" positions are doled out as entry level and the recipient (often a nepo) can't wait to be a BA. Amazon is supposed to be key to our survival, has anyone heard of or seen a Budget. Smoke and mirrors.

The only time that the IBT was genuinely committed to organizing was when it hired Bob Muehlencamp (spelling?) to run the Organizing Department. He made sure that the IBT organizers were properly trained and remained on plan. He had created a plan to organize Overnight that began seriously successful. Additionally, he dispatched trained organizers to Locals to organize while training members. The IBT stole him from the SEIU along with other experienced organizers such as John August. This commitment to growing had started to take off very effectively because of the resources that were committed along with having properly trained people involved. The effort to organize Overnight ended for reasons that I won't get into right here. That ending was the fault of the IBT's ended commitment at that time. My point? Success or failure IS A CHOICE. What's your choice SOB. (That's a redundant question, bro. SOB's Hollywood image before union power. Your ego gets in the way.)

These Clowns that run that Organizing treat the Organizers worse than the companies treat employees.

The IBT Organizing Department under OZ is all talk. The Amazon strike that wasn't a strike is the most recent example. Any organizing thats getting done is happening at the Local level, IBT just likes to claim credit. Not much has changed.
