As it has been clear to you, for quite some time now, we will be laying off thousands of your members in the very near future. With that in mind we wish to commend you on accepting the decrease in contributions to the Pension Fund (Fund). Clearly it was the best move for your members since it will certainly stress the shit out of the Fund in the near future as members will retire while the Fund will have no possible means of making up for the losses. We were concerned that you might dig in over the proposed decrease since it had been clear to you. However, you readily accepted it in spite of your awareness to the damage that it will cause. Here at UPS we have always believed that the retirement age should be raised to eighty-five years of age. Again, you did the right thing for your members. Cuz, you know...shit keeps getting cheaper, right?


Out of gratitude we would like to make a suggestion that we believe will assist you in your next challenge for General President for the IBT. Draw up a flyer detailing the above referenced matter and give copies to your challengers to distribute.

Hoffa, Jr. oversaw UPS withdrawing from Central States, the biggest contributor. And as the letter you shared (tongue in cheek) states, less contributions from UPS, will certainly have a negative impact on the other Teamster pension funds. O'Brien as Union Co-Chair of the New England Teamsters Pension Fund has a proven history of looking the other way and ignoring circumstances that have resulted in uncollected contributions that were required by the CBA. O'Brien has talked the talk on bringing more employer contributions into the Fund, but when asked to help enforce the fiduciary responsibility he is charged with, I can say first hand: Don't hold your breathe waiting for him to do so.

Sean O'Brien doesn't give a damn about teamster pensions. In the last UPS contract all he had to do was agree to the same $ that had been in the last three conracts for pension/H&W, instead gave half away. Of course Davison and Mineros don't know how to say no to SOB so the Western Pension takes a big hit costing UPS members and everyone else.

Like many so called leaders O'Brien likes to throw it all into wages so the contract looks better (historic) members don't realise what happened until they retire. Real leaders education members about pensions so they know exactly what to expect, where that happens you see larger pension contributions.

PRECISELY! The majority of members, including those in Plans, don't know anything about the rules/workings of them. Even throughout their careers. They simply do not put much thought into the contributions other than what the BA or negotiators suggest. Maintenance Of Benefits, etc. In negotiations, I can't tell you how many times an employer suggested that the union's proposals were more than what the Health Fund needed because of its surplus. I didn't give a shit. The employer would also say that the Pension Fund's suggested MOB was more than what was needed as well. Still didn't give a shit. With knowledge of so many members facing layoffs it had to be of concern to SOB??? Who was it???Buford Pusser (spelling)? that would say "Walk quietly and carry a big stick!" SOB is a loudmouth with a goddamn wet noodle!
