Don't run an insurgent campaign with an ego. Listen first.

While campaigning and running on an IBT slate I did so throughout many states along the east coast and westerly into Chicago. I did so with the support of courageous rank and file volunteers. One particular conversation has stuck in my head for years now. It took place in the car with another candidate along with two volunteers. I had stated to the other candidate how much I despised corruption and excessive salaries. However, I continued by stating that in my experience I didn't believe that those topics had much of an influence on perspective voters. I had found that rank and filers were much more concerned about conditions that they believed were more directly related to them. Such as terms and conditions of their collective bargaining agreements and the ENFORCEMENT of those agreements. To this, the rank and filers in our car perked waaaaay up in agreement. One of the two women immediately said, "Bob, you are right! We don't care how much money you make! As long as you take care of us!"

My point? I understand that many of those posting here are trying to have an influence with one purpose or another. That's what people do. However, if I may suggest (again), as an insurgent, when trying to move worker's support to, or from, ...it's best to firstly listen to what the workers issues are. Don't tell workers what their issues should be. Have them tell you.

    Just sayin'. Peace.

Exactly the same applies when organizing workers to form a union.

Mr. Magoo is going to be your GP for many years to come. The quality of Union Representatives in this Union is by far worse than ever..

Aww, cripes! Not even close. For many years the GEB as well as the Locals were rampant with corrupt, mafia influenced, greedy people. We've come a long way. However, democracy can't ever get tired or quit. The current members of the GEB that I am familiar with are genuinely decent folks. The majority of Local Officers that I am familiar with are genuinely decent folks. They simply backed off of principles or never really knew what they were getting into and developed bad habits that contradict their positions. They need to be replaced though.
