While O'Brien has continued the IBT past history of posting notices about Black History Month on the IBT website, in my view, he has not publicly, to my knowledge, disavowed Trump's continual racist speech and erasure of the history of the Black liberation struggle in the USA. Nor, in my view, has he condemned Trump's attacks on the people of Latin America; whether they are living in their birth countries or living here in the USA. O'Brien's silence on these matters and his podcasts and meetings with Trump's allies (most recently Texas Governor Gregg Abbott), in my view shows him to be completely unconcerned with Trump's racist attacks against people of color.

Our Union is supposed to be about building unity and solidarity among workers in this global economy - it's right in the IBT Constitution Preamble. That O'Brien, as the elected General President of our Union, spends his time sucking up to these anti-worker, racist politicians, and offers no criticism of their agenda, shows loud and clear, again, in my view, that, yes: Sean O'Brien, GP of the 1.3 million member International Brotherhood of Teamsters is a racist.

At the August 2019 Teamsters Joint Council 10 annual conference, I requested from the mic under new business, that JC10 Delegates consider a resolution condemning Trump's racist actions and behavior; especially because days before the JC10 annual conference, Trump had visited the state of New Hampshire, where the JC10 annual conference was held. O'Brien responded that I could send a proposed resolution for review by him and the JC10 Executive Board. The Monday following the weekend JC10 conference, I wrote a draft resolution on this matter and emailed it to O'Brien; I also copied it to all Local 251 officers and BA's. I never received any response from O'Brien about my draft proposal.

I'm attaching a copy of that draft resolution and the accompanying email. I crossed out all email addresses herein on the attached (I have not compromised anyone's email address by doing so.).

Recognizing that my views might be inconsistent with other JC10 delegates, I sent the draft resolution in PDF and Word format, so that, if my draft resolution was unacceptable, I was open to an edited version of some kind, that acknowledged the depravity of Trump's actions and behavior.

Yo, Yard Dog! Your comment that "the racist shit is getting old"; Yeah it is very old. It is the history of our country and the world. And it is most relevant to O'Brien and his lackeys who fail to recognize the impact Trump/MAGA is having on our country and the world.

Trump/MAGA's foundation is based on racism, and it is used to make white workers believe that their common interests are with their white bosses, billionaires, and politicians; not with their fellow workers of color including those who are refugees from poverty, corruption, and violence.

I simply don't believe that "racism" is a topic that turns union members votes very much. Let me share one particular experience of mine from quite a few years ago. I was talking to a member that was a non-white minority. It was about his support for a union candidate that I believed was a racist. I asked, "How could you vote for that guy? He is a racist." The member responded, "Bob, look man. I've been dealing with racism all my life. That's not my issue here. I just believe that the guy would make a good officer." I had no response.

Bob Randall: My post about O'Brien being a racist has nothing to do with winning votes. It's about where people stand; which side they are on. O'Brien's support for Trump and his allies may be based on O'Brien's belief that lining himself up with overtly racist politicians will win him votes in the next IBT election. That in itself shows that O'Brien could give a rat's ass about Trump's long and well documented history of racism and Trump's exercising his Executive power as President to take the fight against racism backwards. Of the 1.3 million (or whatever it may actually be) Teamsters, how many members are African American, Latino, Asian or other people of color? Many. The Trump/MAGA movement is rooted in disempowering and erasing the history of decades, centuries of struggle by people of color in the US for equality and social and economic justice. There should be no place in the Teamsters for the Trump/MAGA perspective. It is contrary to everything the Union is supposed to be about. I believe I stated that already in my original post here above. Our Union is not a union until racism is confronted and called out. And there is no place in any Union that calls itself a union for "leaders" that don't recognize and acknowledge history and reality for what it certainly is. And the member you describe talking with years ago may not believe that electing a racist representative to union office will impact how he represents members? I can't see any validity in that perspective. And, from my view, electing a racist as a union representative is a contradiction. Unions are about unity, not disunity.

I agree with everything above. I always think as an organizer and express within that manner often. Sometimes within a more grand scale...sometimes within a certain context. This time within the latter. Peace
