Trump's PBGC Could Reshape Biden's Union Pension Bailouts

President Donald Trumps nominee to manage the federal governments private-sector pension insurer faces pressure from Republican and industry allies to reconfigure a contentious $90 billion Biden-era union bailout.

In the years long battle to protect the pension benefits we fought for, earned, and were promised and benefits that were guaranteed under federal ERISA laws up until the 2014 erosion of ERISA that opened the door to cut benefits, where was current GP O'Brien? He was openly advocating for the "UPS Plan" instead of The Butch Lewis Act. The "UPS Plan" started with 20% benefit cuts.

When O'Brien was asked at the TDU Convention, why O'Brien would propose "The UPS Plan" instead of fighting to guarantee the benefits earned and promised (that The Butch Lewis Act guaranteed), O'Brien answered: "Because everyone has to have skin in the game."

We shed lots of skin in the game to earn our Teamster pension benefits and through the efforts of so many rank and file retired and active Teamsters, and Democratic and Independent politicians that heard our fight, we won The Butch Lewis Act, and currently we can retire or are already retired with the benefits we earned and were promised. Not one Republican in Congress voted in support of the Butch Lewis Act!

Now, seeing OT+'s above post, its clear that this struggle to protect what we have, may be at risk. And O'Brien's support for the Trump/MAGA Project 2025 agenda has helped put us at risk.

This is who Sean O'Brien is, it's who he's always been.

There is absolutely no real satisfaction in this but really have to wonder what the Trump supporting teamsters will think if they rescind all or part of the bailout?

O'Brien has spent more than a year talking up the idea that Trump and Republicans want to help workers. How could he get this so wrong?

Don't expect O'Brien to in any serious way defend the bailout or it's terms. He doesn't give a shit about pensions and never did with the exception of is own several.

That broad? Along with your statements about immigrants it makes me suspect you are really comfortable in your skin as a racist misogynistic individual. It's great that you can remain anonomous on this site. I'll bet your'e a little more selective about things you say out in public.

The Teamsters Unity Conference is a contradiction in name and reality. I've never been to one. But there is no unity when the IBT "leadership" either openly supports Trump/MAGA or sit on their hands and say nothing about O'Brien's appeasement of right wing, racist, fascist Trump/MAGA actions and pronouncements.

We waste so much money on these bullshit conferences it's obscene. It's insiders and loyalists showing up to trash talk one another behind their backs and not one productive thing happens. Lot's of drinking and gambling exactly what a union with declining membership numbers needs. The newly elected reformers never showed up!

Can I tell you something? Nearly all events sponsored by the Teamsters Union involve a great waste of money. Conferences, Conventions, Health Fund Trustee meetings, etc. Wastefully extravagant. Las Vegas, Hollywood FLA, etc. They claim that it's necessary to hold these at such places. "Otherwise....there would be poor attendance." IT'S THEIR FUCKIN' JOB TO ATTEND! The "work" that needs to be completed could be completed in half the time if planned right. However, these events get stretched out over the course of too many days because it's a party. This goes on because of the lack of the "right" kind of leadership. This kind of culture attracts the "wrong" kind of leaders.

It's also a way to suck money off people for the next election. The Organizers are having a convention in Chicago at the high dollar Palmer Hotel. Another waste of money.

When I was a rank and file volunteer organizer the IBT held a training week headed by Bob Muelencamp in upstate New York. Out in the boondock's. Sleeping quarters and meeting rooms in small cottages. It was perfect. Low cost, no distractions. Some Old Guard attended while taking no part in the training. Perfect spot to concentrate and get work done. Today's IBT? Extravagance, superficial with access to hookers. Sad!

Most of the Organizers are not rank and file members.

Don't lose sight of this issue, with all the other crisis's this one regarding the pension bailout could easily get lost.
