Republicans in Florida continue their attack against unions.

Following the passage of anti-union legislation by the Republican dominated Florida Senate, professor unions at several institutions became decertified to bargain for or represent these workers.

Florida is a Right to Work (RTW) state. In RTW states, the state government, Usually dominated by pro-employer Republicans hinder the ability of unions to collect union dues.

But this new legislation goes further , de-certifing any union ot work group if 40% of the workers opt out.

This law could be used by aggressive employers like UPS to decertify groups of workers. In many RTW states, UPS part timers are more likely to opt out. It has been widely repoeted that at UPS WONKY, 80% of new part timers opt out of Local 100.

Much like a trump era NLRB initiative that would make it easier to decertify unions, that scheme allowed for employers to hold de-certification elections in lew of contract negotiations.

This new Florida law is consistent with proposals in the "project 25" prepared by the Heritage Foundation for the trump re-election committee.
