Is Local 89 taking over Cincinnati?

In what can only be considered a "vote of no confidence ", for Locals 100 and 1199, the IBT has assigned the job of organizing the Amazon Air Hub to local 89 from Louisville Kentucky.

Northern Kentucky is cleaely outside Local 89's geographic jurisdiction, violating normal Teamster respect for jurisdiction.

Local 100 and Local 1199 have the jurisdiction in their charters to the geographic area that includes the Northern Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati Regional Airport (CVG).

Another greater Cincinnati local, Local 114 was recently trusteed by the IBT due to the misappropriation of funds and failure to operate that Local for the benefit of those members.

The IBT has been quiet about if they will seek prosecution of the 114 officers. As 114 was closed, it's members were transferred into Local 1199.

The Airport Teamster Local 513, was established in about 2001, which represented as many as 2000 Comair flight attendants. But, that local closed in about 2012, when Comair closed.

Local 100 recently organized 1100 ramp and tug workers at the DHL air hub. But, reports are that very few of those workers have joined the union.

Kentucky is a Right to Work State, and workers can easily opt-out of union membership, or refuse to pay dues.

Local 100 record of organizing members in Kentucky is in question, as it is reported that 80% of the new part time workers at the Walton Kentucky UPS hub have opted-out of Local 100.

WTF something stinks here. How does another local get jurisdictions in a place that already has 1100 members. I think something happened here.

On top of the Courrier Journal article about Local 89 organizing Amazon at the Greater Cincinnati airport, this news release popped up on the IBT website.

Not only in Local 89 moving into Cincinnati, they raided the DHL air hub where Local 100 had already organized the ramp and tug workers.

This is clearly a jurisdiction violation.

Every news station in Cincinnati is running stories about the Amazon workers and Local 89 rallying in downtown Cincinnati at the Federal Building (NLRB).

There are several Local 89 people in the news article, but not one local 100 officer or agent. None of this makes any sense.

Apparently, the local 89 DHL organizing did not go as well as they thought it would. Of the 3000-4000 workers in the DHL Air Hub, they organized a subgroup of about 1,300. (Local 100 organized another 1,100 of those workers)

But, they posted pictures of the contract explaination meeting on facebook yesterday.

Looks like only about 25 DHL workers attended. That's an indication that there is not a lot of support or enthusiasm for Local 89 at DHL.

Kentucky is a right to work state and it's been reported several times that just down the street, the Walton Ky, UPS 50K hub also has problems with workers. 80% of new part time workers at that UPS hub refuse to join the Teamsters.
