Were the UPS Raises Really Historic?

After the contract was negotiated, sold and pushed on the membership we should ask ourselves, was it really "Historic" as the union touted as such. It was apparent that we needed to have a significant raise in order to keep up with the inflation rates. If you compare our contract to that of the ABF contract, we got less when all is added up. Where the UPS contract is better than ABF is on the aft end of the contracts. If you added all the contracts up and do the totals, ABF faired far better than us. We of course will be going in to the next contract 1.00 ahead but after the years of the contract span ABF earns more than UPS Teamsters as far as the raise is concerned. In doing the math, I give the raises for each year and then multiple all raises based on a 40 hour work week. All you have to do is multiple the totals for the yearly gains as a unit. In other words, you gain substantially more when you front load a contract.

The starting wage? I know it was raised significantly and needed to be (inflation and overdue adjustment). People like me were ridiculing contract after contract about the starting wages. I do know that Sean O'Brien was going to strike if he didn't get $25 to start and then settled for 21.
