The point is that we were told it was imperative to preserve jobs due to automation in this upcoming contract (current) and got nothing. In fact, they signed a contract that gave the company the right to do so. Now you are saying that we can't do nothing about it now. You are right. It's a 5 year contract that the membership has to live with.

It's only in the beginning stages. Wait till they really start ramping up the closures and shift all the volume back to the automated buildings that they finished. I am mean it's not like you didn't post about your building closure a month ago. It's happening before our eyes and people are in denial.

Noone is even saying that. The contract is locked in for 5 years and yes we can do nothing about it now. You are right, I keep repeating. That is why the gentlemen here offered up this site, to deal with issues before they become a problem for the membership. What we are saying is that automation will eventually put Teamsters out of a job and the company is bragging that they will even be cutting a mass amount of feeder jobs when the upgrades are complete.

The problem we are speaking of is that we have a guy who is running the union who promised to fix the problem in our upcoming contract (now current) and never did. Yes, there are provisions you can put in the contract to curtail the problem.

It's sad that we have nitwits out there that are saying that job loss is due to contract negotiations. It has been a year and the volume is steadily increasing and profits are soaring due to efficiency. We have a building in the area (Middletown PA) that had dozens of feeder positions deleted from our seniority list. Our local union didn't even bother to offer the work to the people that lost their position. So, yes, automation is killing jobs and the company is already seeing windfalls from their progress.
