The only way out for O'Brien as he speaks to the Republican Convention is, for him to tell them that, they have shown nothing but contempt for organized labor ,they have a terrible labor record; that they must do a 180 degree turn on their treatment of matters critical to working people; that they must stop dehumanizing workers struggling to survive on this Earth, that workers and their unions won't sit and watch any political power erode any of our current rights under law, and that if they don't improve the sorry state of US labor law, if they appoint any anti-union NLRB members, if they don't appoint pro-worker heads of the USDOL and OSHA, if they don't approve the PRO Act; then they will be cutting their own throats, because we will do everything in our power to defeat them and their corporate criminal allies.

His appearance will only can be worthwhile if he presents such a message. If he does that, they'll probably cut his microphone and have security remove him from the stage. But that would be worth seeing.

I've laid it out before how I feel about labor laws. I will never prescribe to them. I know how you feel but I am that person who wants to erase the whole system and honor contracts instead of law. Just like this whole "Right To Work" bullshit. How the hell does one even honor these labor laws when we have a national contract in force? Right to work should never trump a contract. You are throwing the "Contract Law" (Agreement between two parties) out the window. And these lawyers (both sides) know it too. And, don't get me started with labor attorneys. It's customary to sign NDA's and Memorandums of Understanding? Bullshit!

There is no one that hates SOB more than me BUT I can't chastise everything he does. We have some Republicans that are seeing it our way and are against Right To Work. Just like YRC,,, as much as I want to blame O'Brien, I can't. Giving in to the demands of a CEO that was ruining the company would have been worse. The company was a sinking ship and no one would have been able to fix it.

Brother: The US labor movement got decimated 77 years ago with Taft Hartley and the back stabbers that raided the unions that refused to sign the affidavits required by that law. Its been an uphill battle ever since. My view is, we have to work with what we've got, and what the rank and file is willing to do. What's happening today with O.Brien's slate, and those in TDU that go along with him, has undermined everything a union and any rank and file movement worth its salt should be about. But I've paid my dues, finally semi-retired after 50 years a Teamster, and trying to be hopeful for change for the better. But as some say: "There must be darkness before the light."

It shouldn't be lost on anyone that this big PR move to speak at both was a set up from the start. The RNC was always going to have him speak. His not so vailed cover was to say he would also speak at the DNC. There was never a question that he would speak at the RNC. He endorsed trump when he had him in the building, for all the misguided members who wanted to vote for him. This is simply the biggest disgrace for the Teamsters; selling out the members, selling out their future, selling out the entire labor movement. Further destruction of our union as planned by the oz/tdu/govt tripartite! Such a disgrace...

I agree that most politicians are shady. But I will cite the following facts:

- O'Brien was ready to compromise the pension benefits we were promised and that we earned through our labor, our sweat.

- Why? O'Brien when asked at the TDU convention on why he was backing the "UPS Plan" that starts with 20% benefit cuts, rather than pushing for the Butch Lewis Act that guarantees 100% of promised benefits through 2051, when the Butch Lewis Act had already been approved by the US House of Representatives and Democrats might retake the Senate and the White House. O'Brien had a simple answer and I quote him because I asked the question from the floor mic: O'Brien: "Because, I believe, everyone has to have skin in the game."

- Another "Buckle your chin straps" approach from the tough guy.

We already put enough skin in the game, while Teamster leadership stood by and watched as the LTL trucking industry was deregulated. Oh, wait a second, IBT GP Roy Williams tried to bribe Senator Canon, the committee chairman, to kill deregulation, but he got caught. That was about it from IBT leadership on the greatest disaster for unionized trucking in Amerika.

Rather than get 500,000 Teamsters in the streets of Washington, DC to demand protection from deregulation's devastation on working conditions by way of cut throat competition, in an industry that shared a level playing field, because of ICC control, the Teamster leadership opted for more corruption, like the suitcases of cash TMI would bring to NMFA negotiations.

Why: Because Teamster leadership feared organizing the rank and file. Although, in the midst of the onset of deregulation in 1981, after Reagan fired striking PATCO members, the AFL-CIO turned out over half a million members in the streets of Washington DC, on Solidarity Day. TDU had a contingent, and my wife and I marched representing the Boston chapter. We passed by the IBT headquarters on Louisiana AVE. NW; we had planned to stop in with our TDU banner, but - it was closed!

Not that the Union should rely on government regulation rather than hard core organizing, deregulation killed the NMFA and YRC and New Penn, from which I retired at the end of 2022.

So, I'm struggling with whether to vote, but no struggle, no question in my mind, it will not be for Trump, just like it was not for O'Brien nor his opponent.

I put my stock in rank and file power with the goal of an honest, militant, democratic, and transparent Teamsters union. None of us has all the answers. But once I'm gone, like so many Teamsters that sacrificed for the same goals, I won't have the chance to make my views known.
