    TDU on Teamster Finance

CEO salaries have exploded over the last forty years. But salaries and perks for top Teamster officials have been reduced over the same period. Teamsters for a Democratic Union (TDU) and rank-and-file Teamsters made it happen. Heres how.

They went down because the constitution sets the starting salaries for officers. Intellectual dishonesty from the TURD again.

When Hoffa left office after serving 20 years and receiving 20 annual COLA adjustments, TDU complained, as it had each and every year of his administration, that the salary was too high and that officers earning that amount of money didn't need a COLA. Now it takes credit for the fact that SOB doesn't earn as much as officers of smaller unions. But compare apples with apples. In his last full year in office, Hoffa's total salary and benefits reported on the LM2 was $419,467. In his first year, SOB's salary and benefits were reported as $419,222. Hall's last salary and benefits totaled $251,825. Zuckerman's last reported earnings were $377,537. The differences reflect the expenses received by SOB and Zuckerman that are approved by the rubber stamp GEB and their TDU apologists. Thus, SOB received $168,873 in various expenses and reimbursements and Zuckerman got $155,002. In contrast, Hoffa got $78,434 and Hall got $20,054. Any explanation for where that money went? They seem to be prospering during their short time in office by comparison to their predecessors. That is more relevant than what the comparison is to other smaller unions. No self-congratulations are warranted TDU.

Expenses on the LM2 are not income, if you've read those before. If you travel, meal and travel expenses can show up there. Sometimes unions choose to pay per diem allowances instead of reimbursing expenses. Neither of these are income. Sean and Fred do travel a lot, visiting members in the workplace and showing up at various events. The previous leadership didn't do much, if any, of that.

AlJackson and Noman point out in detail that TDU has betrayed the principles that attracked rank and file teamsters to begin with. They are just another IBT department paid to perform. Any analysis of anything related to the teamsters union done by todays TDU is worthless, they've lost credibility. What they critisized before is okay now that their the beneficiaries. Disgusting hypocrits.

Kinda funny they decided to alphabetise the list to confuse and excluded all unelected IBT staff this time, many of whom topped $200 k. Yes, just another IBT Dept.

Search the Too Dumb to Understand site for their historical presentations and numbers. They were better off keeping their clappy traps shut than releasing partial IBT officer lists, lists of other unions, many with very seasoned bosses who been leading their orgs for decades. Just admit it - Tear Down the Union are OZ apologists and deflectors. Now its all these other int'l unions that are corrupt with overpaid execs. So much for solidarity. That's what you become when youve been co-opted, jumped on the payroll and can suck on the big teat. Think "Animal Farm".

EXACTLY! They printed these year after year, then when Sean came along, they stopped. These O'Brien blowhards show up and want to dictate what's right and wrong. Now all the sudden TDU is the standard for truth. Wasn't it these Johnny Come Lately's that stood by O'Brien when TDU called them crooks? The people of this forum aren't the hypocrites.

Giving Gimme_Danger partial credit, expenses are not salary. But not all of the expenses were for SOB's or Zuckerman's visits to members. Column G of the LM2 is for payments "essentially for the PERSONAL BENEFIT of the officer and NOT NECESSARY FOR CONDUCTING BUSINESS OF THE LABOR ORGANIZATION" per DOL's instructions on the report. $85,147 was listed in Column G for SOB and $74,440 for Zuckerman. You may not consider that "salary", but it's money that paid for personal items that had no union purpose and should have been paid out of their own pockets. Doesn't make it illegal, but maybe members are entitled to know what exactly they paid for that did not involve providing them any services.

TDU's okay with giving O'Brien a $84K slush fund just like they're okay with all the TDU Vice Presidents and Trustees (except Palmer) taking multiple salaries and who knows how many pensions,

Maybe the housing allowance as had been done for decades was listed there?
Also, the IBT Constitution does specifically state what GEB members get for a salary. I don't recall any proposed changes to the IBT Constitution by Leedham or Sylvester on that topic at previous conventions?
The one VP not getting anything additional has more to do with not being a local officer, and refusing to perform work as an organizer (he had been paid more than the VP amount when previously 'performing' duties as a deputy director of organizing and then organizer).

Was anyone complaining when Palmer was collecting a VP salary in his first term and collected a salary from L89 in 2019 and 2020?

This whole site is a complaint department, certainly not 'simply reporting' anything.

It seems like you are here complaining about others complaining. You consider those on this site that voice their opinion for not agreeing with or liking what this administration is doing complaining, but in turn you are voicing your opinion on not liking what they have to say, which by your definition is complaining.

I was asking a question while reporting some facts, that contradicted an inaccurate statement above.

I was referring to the comment you made (8.2), but I couldn't quote it, so I quoted your original comment. You are complaining that this site is a complaint department.

The beef with Tdu used to be they were one sided. This site is like TDU used to be. TDU decided to get in the game. They are doing all the rigbt things to include everyone and now its not good enough. Same story pal.

Wow, you aint that bright but then again, look who you are fending for. This article is once again showing how Teamster salaries are less than other unions making it right to have over bloated incomes (their words not ours) that they complained about in the past. If you were around like the people here, you would know that TDU had a club called the 150K club then the 200K club then the 250K Club etc.. They even printed this in their bullshit newsletter, The Teamster Voice. In this puff piece, they only show the salary and not entitlements. To make it worse, they don't even show the top earners or even speak about them. Geee, I wonder why?

Here ya go genius. This is the 150K club in 2019. See how they listed everything?

        https://www.tdu.org/teamster_officer_salaries

If you read the article, they even talk about cost of living adjustments, allowances, expenses and double salaries which was a no-no until now. Teamsterlink lists everything, TDU now does not. Big difference.

Oh and by the way, where were you when TDU was talking out against salaries? What side of the fence were you on then? Nothing like getting our promise months later in the form of another article that is covering for their new reformers ONCE AGAIN!
Every year TDU reports on our union's highest paid officials to let you decide who's earning the money, who's not, and what should be done about it.

But what about Randy Korgan getting a full salary from a local that he is not part of as a consultant? 500k a year in salaries? Is that ok?

Yup. Where's the article? I think it is becoming more and more apparent where TDU lies. Membership money is more important than the facts.

          It was actually $502k.

Funny is that it was a SoCal TDU member in the steering committee that contacted Teamsterlink to correct them on the missing salary from Local 63.
