They announced the merger to members on April 19 and then sent out ballots on May 1. Far as we know, they're only campaigning at the bus depot where opposition was the strongest and nowhere else in 695. People were lighitng up the IBT saying they hated the BA's and wanted out. instead of dealing with that they're keeping the BA's and merging into 120, which is 11,500 members so there's no chance that they lose control of the local.

Thats the current model for fake reasons for mergers. Just get a couple members to write a complaint. They don't do anything about the complaint, they just merge the local and your stuck with the same people you were complaining about.

Talked to the Vegas drivers. Apparently the merger was called off by Local 14. No reason was given by 631 leadership. Members at 631 started a petition to leave JC 42 and a vote will be held. Tensions are high between 14, 986 and 631 in Nevada. Not a good thing for the Teamsters.

Fck 986. What happened to jurisdiction? Why were they allowed to organize in Local 14 and 631's backyard?

These kinds of things are meant to protect BA's and Officers. 120 must have a Vice President around, purely coincident.

School bus drivers have been a hot ticket for a while now, and when they get a contract the locals all cry about representing bus drivers. I never understood that. Why even waste the time and money to organize these groups if they are going to be treated as second class citizens

What makes you think they get 'treated as second class citizens'? I agree that members all deserve to get the best contracts and representation possible, regardless of industry.
I know there has been a lot of activity in New England.

The idea of Local autonomy might as well be stricken from the constitution with these multi-state Locals. How can a small group at a single employer have any kind of voice in Locals like that?

While there may be good reason for mergers, the plan here for oz/tdu/govt is to consolidate delegates for the next convention. SOB is consolidating power so they will be running/ruining the Teamsters for the next 25 years, or until the govt gets tired of them. No opposition out there, as they are bought off for a few bucks a month, or intimidated by the IIO, oz's weapon!

Hopefully they are able to stop the merger.
