    Post-Gazette "Selling out in secret"

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette said Wednesday night it has settled its long 18-month strike by Teamsters Local 211/205, a newspaper executive confirmed. Tracey DeAngelo, Post-Gazette president and general manager, confirmed the settlement through a spokesperson as she was returning from Toledo, Ohio, where Block Communications Inc., owner of the Pittsburgh newspaper,

Just when you think our reputation within the labor movement can't get worse we find a way. Take the money and leave your brothers and sisters hanging. If you've ever been on strike, especially a long one and you've seen people you trusted cave in to the company its something you never forget. Does it have anything to do with the strike benefits the union was paying out?

The local Teamsters union has voted to accept payment and dissolve itself as part of a settlement with Post-Gazette parent company, Block Communications.

Former NewsGuild member here (not the Pittsburgh Guild), now working elsewhere and about to start bargaining our first Teamster contract. I've been contributing to the Post-Gazette strike fund every month for the past year, and periodically since the strike began.

This is utterly shameful behavior. I'm disgusted beyond words.

Here's the take from the striking NewsGuild members' own paper, the Pittsburgh Union Progess: https://www.unionprogress.com/2024/0...amsters-local/

This sends a terrible message to anyone involved in the industry. To management it says we can't stay united with other unions and they can wait us out.

I hope your currently in a different industry, this is really disgusting.

Oz has been a total failure on almost all levels. They not only have fired everyone who was qualified on the staff, and their political weapons have eliminated people who had history and contacts to do the job for the members, but have also embarrassed Teamsters who see themselves as part of the bigger labor movement. The level of incompetence is austoundinding, and their inability to do anything but bully and hide behind the expensive PR machine is all they seem to be able to do. The tdu is totally exposed as a fraudulent, sell-out, group of hypocrites, with paff being the biggest whore of them all. You got to respect the few guys like Tom and Tim, who are trying to stand up and bring the issues to the members. Trump, union busting internally, lost strikes, selling out others, raiding rather than organizing; what's left to further denigrate a once great organization?
